12th of July proved to be a bad omen to Derry City as they made the trip on the rocky road to Dublin to face Shamrock Rovers.
The last time these two sides met was at the Brandywell when Derry ran out 2-1 winners.
Derry where looking to bonce back after a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Dundalk at the Brandywell last week and should have took the lead when Paddy Kavanaghs shot from a cross from Barry McNamee when just wide of Englishman Richard Brush`s post. 0-0.
The hoops took the lead after 37 minutes when Sean O`Connor hit a superb shot into the back of the net, frustration all around the Derry City fans.
HALF TIME 1-0.
The second half began and Derry had a penalty when Derry`s newest singing Eoghan Osbourne was fouled by Billy Dennehy who was having a horrible night and Rafter made no mistake and scored to make it 1-1.
It did not last long however, Sean O`Connor who has always been a thorn in the side for Derry put vollyed the ball from 25 yards and made it 2-1 to the Hoops.
Shamrock Rovers had many chances to grap a 3rd but no avail and Derry had their cances as well but never troubled Richard Brush.
Full Time Derry are no on 2 losses in a row.
