There's a place in the EA Sports Cup Semi Final on offer tonight, as the holders Drogheda United welcome a Cork City side looking to recover from a heavy loss on Friday
Drogheda United
The Drogs have a Europa League encounter on Thursday to look ahead to , but tonight they need to address a loss of form. They haven't won in the League since the middle of May, when they beat Limerick in Thomond Park.
Since then they've lost 6 on the spin, but have managed to sandwich two cup wins in between, thumping Longford Town 6-0 in the last round
.
Drogs will have David Cassidy, Alan McNally, Alan Byrne and Ryan Brennan available for selection, but Eric Foley will miss out, as he recuperates from a hernia operation.
Speaking to extratime.ie Drogheda's assistant manager Robbie Horgan says his side will not overlook tonight's game:
"We are the EA Sports Cup holders, we will treat the game with the respect it deserves. We all know Europe is on Thursday and all the lads want to play in that, but we take each game as it comes and we would like to defend our EA Sports Cup title.
"It's good to get the four lads back into the team, we will be putting out a strong team for tomorrow night, we'll deal with Thursday once
the final whistle goes, but for the moment everything is focused on the
EA Sports Cup. We won't be underestimating Cork City either, they are
no pushovers."
Cork City
After a disappointing loss to UCD on Friday, Cork City are looking to bounce back with a victory tonight. They progressed to the quarter finals thanks to a 4-0 win in Ferrycarrig Park, and beat the Drogs in the league just before the break, thanks to a wonder goal from Daryl Horgan (which has since gone viral in Spain and Italy!).
Tommy Dunne has no fresh injury concerns after Friday night. Dan Murray, Kevin Murray, Colin Healy, Brian Lenihan, Danny Morrissey all remain sidelined.
Speaking to the clubs official website, Dunne is considering experimenting with players:
''Having faced UCD on Friday, we are travelling again on Monday back up
to Drogheda. There are a number of players who will probably get game
time in that match, but it is still a game that we want to win as it
would get us to the semi final of the competition.
"Drogheda is a really tough place to go, it’s a tight pitch and it will
be a physical game, so we need to be up for that side of the game and
that will hopefully give us an opportunity to progress to the semi
final."
On The Sidelines Prediction: With Drogheda looking to Malmo, I can see Cork sneaking this by the odd goal. 2-1 Cork City
