It’s a clash of the bottom two in the Airtricity League First Division as Salthill Devon make the trip from the West to the South coast of Ireland to take on Cobh Ramblers. These two sides last met in a 1-1 draw at the Drom in which Ramblers were leading through Michael O’Shea at the half, but Jean Biansumba ensured Salthill one of their three points so far this season.
Last weekend the home side were battered 5-1 at the home of the current league leaders, Longford Town. That was the latest in a long line of high scoring game involving the Cork outfit, whose games has seen an average of exactly four goals this season. Salthill were also beaten in the Midlands last time out, suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Athlone Town.
Devon have been left behind, firmly in the wake of their neighbours Mervue United who currently sit third, and almost a halfway through the season are already eight points adrift of next place Ramblers, making Saturday’s game crucial for Tony Mannion’s men. Cobh meanwhile are looking to jump ahead of fellow Munstermen Waterford United, who face a tricky trip to Athlone and who also find themselves in bad form, winning only one of their last five league games.
The last time Salthill made the trip to the harbour town they came away with a 1-0 win that would see them go on and secure their First Division status in the A Championship playoff and a repeat of that score line would do the Devon nicely. Kick-off at St. Colman’s Park is 7.45PM.
